[753] Then, Bhāradvāja, this occurred to me: 'It is not easy to attain that pleasure with a body that has reached such extreme emaciation. Suppose I were to take solid food—boiled rice and sour porridge (kummāsa).' So, Bhāradvāja, I took solid food—boiled rice and sour porridge. Now at that time, Bhāradvāja, five bhikkhus were attending upon me, thinking: 'Whatever Dhamma the ascetic Gotama attains, he will announce it to us.' But when I took solid food—boiled rice and sour porridge—those five bhikkhus, disillusioned, departed from me, thinking: 'The ascetic Gotama has become given to luxury; he has strayed from his striving and reverted to luxury.'
