[80] "Venerable sir, this converting magic (āvaṭṭanī māyā) is excellent; venerable sir, this converting magic is lovely. Venerable sir, if my dear relatives and kinsmen were to be converted by this conversion, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of my dear relatives and kinsmen. Venerable sir, if all the khattiyas were to be converted by this conversion, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of all the khattiyas. Venerable sir, if all the brahmins … the vessas … the suddas were to be converted by this conversion, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of all the suddas. Venerable sir, if the world with its devas, with Māra, with Brahmā, this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and humans, were to be converted by this conversion, that would be for the lasting welfare and happiness of the world with its devas, with Māra, with Brahmā, of this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its devas and humans. Well then, venerable sir, I shall make a simile for you; for by means of a simile some wise persons here understand the meaning of what is said."
