[82] When this was said, the householder Upāli rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, extended his joined palms in reverence toward where the Blessed One was, and said to the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta: "Then, venerable sir, hear whose disciple I am:
The wise one, rid of delusion, who has broken up the barrenness of heart, victorious in his conquest, untroubled, of perfectly even mind, of awakened virtue (buddhasīla), of excellent wisdom, who has crossed beyond the uneven, the stainless one — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
Free of perplexity, contented, who has vomited up the bait of the world, joyful, who has completed the ascetic's task, a human being bearing his final body, a man beyond compare, free of dust — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
Free of doubt, skillful, the guide of beings, the excellent charioteer, unsurpassed, of splendid qualities, free of all uncertainty, the maker of light, the cutter of conceit, the hero — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
The chief bull, immeasurable, profound, attained to sagehood (mona), the maker of safety, possessed of knowledge, firm in the Dhamma, well restrained in himself, gone beyond the ties, released — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
The nāga whose dwelling is remote, whose fetters (saṃyojana) are destroyed, released, skilled in counter-questioning, the sage, whose banner is lowered, rid of lust, tamed, free of mental proliferation (papañca) — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
The seventh of seers, undeceitful, possessed of the three true knowledges (tevijjā), a sublime being (brahmasatta), the bathed one, the master of words, tranquil, who has understood what is to be known, the Foremost Giver (Purindada), the Able One (Sakka) — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
The noble one, self-developed, who has attained what is to be attained, the expounder, mindful, of clear insight, neither bent forward nor bent back, imperturbable, attained to mastery — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
Rightly gone, a meditator, whose mind within follows after nothing, pure, unattached, unafraid, thoroughly secluded, attained to the summit, crossed over, who brings others across — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
Peaceful, of vast wisdom, of great wisdom, rid of greed (lobha), the Tathāgata, the Sublime One, without counterpart, without equal, confident, subtle — of that Blessed One I am the disciple.
The cutter of craving (taṇhā), the Awakened One, free of smoke, unsullied, worthy of offerings, the spirit (yakkha), the supreme person, beyond measure, great, attained to the summit of glory — of that Blessed One I am the disciple."
