[179] The Blessed One said this: "And what, Bhikkhus, is the quality of an untrue person (asappurisadhamma)? Here, Bhikkhus, an untrue person (asappurisa) has gone forth from a high family. He reflects thus: 'I have gone forth from a high family; but these other bhikkhus have not gone forth from a high family.' On account of that high birth he exalts himself and disparages others. This, Bhikkhus, is the quality of an untrue person.
But a true person (sappurisa), Bhikkhus, reflects thus: 'It is not on account of high birth that states of greed come to destruction, or states of hatred come to destruction, or states of delusion come to destruction. Even if someone has not gone forth from a high family, yet if he is one practicing in accordance with the Dhamma (dhammānudhammapaṭipanna), practicing rightly, conducting himself in conformity with the Dhamma, he is worthy of honor therein, he is worthy of praise therein.' So, having made the practice itself the essential thing, he neither exalts himself nor disparages others on account of that high birth. This, Bhikkhus, is the quality of a true person (sappurisadhamma)."
