[190] Bhikkhus, furthermore, an untrue person (asappurisa) is one who dwells in a charnel ground … is an open-air dweller … is one who keeps the sitter's practice … is one who accepts whatever lodging is allotted … is a one-session eater. He reflects thus: "I am a one-session eater, but these other bhikkhus are not one-session eaters." Because of that one-session eating he exalts himself and disparages others. This too, bhikkhus, is a quality of an untrue person.
But a true person (sappurisa), bhikkhus, reflects thus: "It is not by one-session eating that states of greed come to extinction, or that states of hatred come to extinction, or that states of delusion come to extinction. Even if someone is not a one-session eater, if he is one who practices in accordance with the Dhamma, who practices rightly, who conducts himself in accordance with the Dhamma, then he is worthy of honor therein, he is worthy of praise therein." So, making the practice itself the essential thing, he neither exalts himself nor disparages others on account of that one-session eating. This too, bhikkhus, is a quality of a true person.
