[238] "But, venerable sir, might there be another way in which a bhikkhu is fit to be called 'skilled in the elements (dhātu)'?"
"There might, Ānanda. There are, Ānanda, these six elements: the earth element, the water element, the fire element, the air element, the space element, and the consciousness element. When a bhikkhu knows and sees these six elements, Ānanda, to that extent too he is fit to be called 'a bhikkhu skilled in the elements.'"
