[242] "But, venerable sir, could there be another way in which a bhikkhu is qualified to be called 'skilled in the elements (dhātu)'?"
"There could, Ānanda. There are, Ānanda, these two elements: the conditioned element (saṅkhatā dhātu) and the unconditioned element (asaṅkhatā dhātu). When, Ānanda, a bhikkhu knows and sees these two elements, to that extent too, Ānanda, he is qualified to be called 'a bhikkhu skilled in the elements.'"
