[328] Bhikkhus, furthermore, a bhikkhu is endowed with faith (saddhā), endowed with virtue (sīla), endowed with learning (suta), endowed with generosity (cāga), endowed with wisdom (paññā). He has heard: 'The Vehapphalā gods … the Avihā gods … the Atappā gods … the Sudassā gods … the Sudassī gods … the Akaniṭṭhā gods are long-lived, beautiful, abounding in happiness.' It occurs to him thus: 'Oh, that with the breakup of the body, after death, I might be reborn in the company of the Akaniṭṭhā gods!' He fixes that mind (citta), he resolves upon that mind, he develops that mind. Those volitional formations (saṅkhārā) and abidings of his, thus developed, thus cultivated, lead to rebirth there. This, bhikkhus, is the path, this is the practice that leads to rebirth there.
