[342] "Ānanda, whatever ascetics or brahmins in the past entered upon and dwelt in the pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness (suññatā), all of them entered upon and dwelt in this very same pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness. Ānanda, whatever ascetics or brahmins in the future will enter upon and dwell in the pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness, all of them will enter upon and dwell in this very same pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness. Ānanda, whatever ascetics or brahmins at present enter upon and dwell in the pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness, all of them enter upon and dwell in this very same pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness. Therefore, Ānanda, you should train thus: 'We shall enter upon and dwell in the pure, supreme and unsurpassed emptiness.' Thus indeed, Ānanda, should you train."
This is what the Blessed One said. Elated, the Venerable Ānanda rejoiced in the Blessed One's words.
