[343] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling among the Sakyans, at Kapilavatthu, in the Nigrodha Park (Nigrodhārāma). Then the Blessed One, having dressed in the morning and taken his bowl and robe, entered Kapilavatthu for alms. Having walked for alms in Kapilavatthu, after the meal, having returned from his almsround, he approached the dwelling of Kāḷakhemaka the Sakyan for the day's abiding. Now on that occasion, in the dwelling of Kāḷakhemaka the Sakyan, very many resting places had been prepared. The Blessed One saw the very many resting places prepared in the dwelling of Kāḷakhemaka the Sakyan. Having seen them, this occurred to the Blessed One: "Very many resting places have been prepared in the dwelling of Kāḷakhemaka the Sakyan; are there very many bhikkhus dwelling here?"
