[369] "Venerable sir, I have heard this in the presence of the Blessed One, received it in his presence: 'Ānanda, when the Bodhisatta (bodhisatta) has descended into his mother's womb, no affliction whatsoever arises for the Bodhisatta's mother; the Bodhisatta's mother is happy and unwearied in body; and the Bodhisatta's mother sees the Bodhisatta within her womb, complete in all his limbs great and small, with faculties unimpaired. Suppose, Ānanda, there were a beryl gem, beautiful, radiant, eight-faceted, well cut; and through it a thread were strung — blue, or yellow, or red, or white, or a pale-brown thread. A man with good eyesight, taking it in his hand, might examine it thus: "This beryl gem is beautiful, radiant, eight-faceted, well cut; and through it this thread is strung — blue, or yellow, or red, or white, or a pale-brown thread." Even so, Ānanda, when the Bodhisatta has descended into his mother's womb, no affliction whatsoever arises for the Bodhisatta's mother; the Bodhisatta's mother is happy and unwearied in body; and the Bodhisatta's mother sees the Bodhisatta within her womb, complete in all his limbs great and small, with faculties unimpaired.' This too, venerable sir, … this too, venerable sir, I remember as an incredible and amazing quality (acchariya-abbhūtadhamma) of the Blessed One."
