[375] "Venerable sir, I have heard this in the presence of the Blessed One, received it in his presence: 'Ānanda, when the Bodhisatta emerges from his mother's womb, he emerges entirely pure — unsmeared by water, unsmeared by mucus, unsmeared by blood, unsmeared by pus, unsmeared by any impurity whatsoever — clean and pure. Just as, Ānanda, when a jewel-gem is laid upon Kāsi cloth, neither does the jewel-gem smear the Kāsi cloth, nor does the Kāsi cloth smear the jewel-gem. For what reason? Because of the purity of both. Even so, Ānanda, when the Bodhisatta emerges from his mother's womb, he emerges pure — unsmeared by water, unsmeared by mucus … unsmeared by any impurity whatsoever — clean and pure.' This too, venerable sir, … this too, venerable sir, I remember as a wonderful and marvelous quality (acchariya-abbhūtadhamma) of the Blessed One."
