[406] When he had sat down to one side, Prince Jayasena said this to the venerable Bhūmija: "Worthy Bhūmija, there are some ascetics and brahmins who hold this doctrine, this view: 'If one leads the holy life having made a wish, one is incapable of attaining the fruit; if one leads the holy life having made no wish, one is incapable of attaining the fruit; if one leads the holy life having made both a wish and no wish, one is incapable of attaining the fruit; if one leads the holy life having made neither a wish nor no wish, one is incapable of attaining the fruit.' In this matter, what does the worthy Bhūmija's teacher say, what view does he hold, what does he declare?"
