Suttapiṭaka · Majjhimanikāya · Vol. 14 · Section 424

[424] "Householder, there are these four kinds of rebirth into existence (bhavūpapatti). What four? Here, householder, someone dwells having pervaded and resolved upon 'limited radiance' (parittābhā). With the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in the company of the gods of limited radiance. But here, householder, someone dwells having pervaded and resolved upon 'limitless radiance' (appamāṇābhā). With the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in the company of the gods of limitless radiance. Here, householder, someone dwells having pervaded and resolved upon 'corrupted radiance' (saṅkiliṭṭhābhā). With the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in the company of the gods of corrupted radiance. But here, householder, someone dwells having pervaded and resolved upon 'pure radiance' (parisuddhābhā). With the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in the company of the gods of pure radiance. These, householder, are the four kinds of rebirth into existence."
