[456] "So then, Anuruddha, I … [elided in the Pali]. Then, Anuruddha, it occurred to me: 'Elation (ubbila) has arisen in me, and on account of that elation my concentration (samādhi) fell away; when concentration falls away, the light (obhāsa) and the vision of forms vanish. Suppose, Anuruddha, a man searching for a single entrance to a treasure trove were all at once to come upon five entrances to treasure troves: elation would arise in him on that account. In the same way, Anuruddha, elation arose in me, and on account of that elation my concentration fell away; when concentration falls away, the light and the vision of forms vanish. I shall act in such a way that neither doubt (vicikicchā), nor inattention, nor dullness and drowsiness (thīna-middha), nor terror, nor elation will arise in me again.'"
