Then, Anuruddha, it occurred to me: 'Coarseness (duṭṭhulla) has arisen in me, and on account of coarseness my concentration (samādhi) fell away; when concentration falls away, the light and the vision of forms disappear. I shall so act that neither doubt (vicikicchā), nor inattention, nor dullness and drowsiness, nor terror, nor elation, nor coarseness will arise in me again.'
