[459] "Then, Anuruddha, I … Then, Anuruddha, it occurred to me: 'Overly lax energy (atilīnavīriya) has arisen in me, and on account of overly lax energy my concentration (samādhi) fell away; when concentration falls away, the light (obhāsa) and the vision of forms vanish. Suppose, Anuruddha, a person were to grip a quail loosely; it would fly up out of his hand. In the same way, Anuruddha, overly lax energy arose in me, and on account of overly lax energy my concentration fell away; when concentration falls away, the light and the vision of forms vanish. I shall act in such a way that neither doubt (vicikicchā), nor inattention (amanasikāra), nor dullness and drowsiness (thīnamiddha), nor terror (chambhitatta), nor elation (ubbila), nor discomfort (duṭṭhulla), nor excessive energy (accāraddhavīriya), nor overly lax energy will arise in me again.'"
