[519] Bhikkhus, immediately contiguous with that Hell of Hot Embers (kukkūḷaniraya) is the great Silk-Cotton Forest (simbalivana), a league high, with thorns sixteen finger-breadths long, burning, blazing, and glowing. There they make him climb up it and climb down it. There he feels feelings (vedanā) that are painful, racking, and piercing; yet he does not die so long as that evil deed is not exhausted.
