[52] Then the novice (samaṇuddesa) Cunda, having completed the rains residence at Pāvā, went to Sāmagāma, to where the Venerable Ānanda was; having approached and paid homage to the Venerable Ānanda, he sat down to one side. Seated to one side, the novice Cunda said this to the Venerable Ānanda: "Venerable sir, the Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta has recently died at Pāvā. With his death the Nigaṇṭhas are split, divided into two factions … with its shrine broken, without a refuge." When this was said, the Venerable Ānanda said this to the novice Cunda: "Friend Cunda, this is indeed a topic of talk worth presenting (kathāpābhaṭa) for a visit to see the Blessed One. Come, friend Cunda, let us go to where the Blessed One is; having approached, we shall report this matter to the Blessed One." "Yes, venerable sir," the novice Cunda replied to the Venerable Ānanda.
