[523] Bhikkhus, the wardens of hell say to that being: 'Good man, what do you want?' He says: 'I am thirsty, venerable sirs.' Then, bhikkhus, the wardens of hell pry open his mouth with a heated iron spike—burning, blazing, glowing—and pour molten copper into his mouth—burning, blazing, glowing. It burns his lips, it burns his mouth, it burns his throat, it burns his belly, and it passes out below, carrying with it his large intestines and small intestines. There he feels feelings (vedanā) that are painful, racking, and piercing; yet he does not die so long as that evil deed (pāpakamma) is not exhausted. Then, bhikkhus, the wardens of hell throw him back into the Great Hell (Mahāniraya).
