[536] Then the Blessed One, in the evening, having emerged from seclusion (paṭisallāna), approached the attendance hall (upaṭṭhānasālā); having approached, he sat down on the seat that had been prepared. Having sat down, the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus: "Bhikkhus, who was it that instructed, urged, roused, and gladdened the bhikkhus in the attendance hall with a talk on the Dhamma, and spoke the summary (uddesa) and exposition (vibhaṅga) of the one of an excellent night (bhaddekaratta)?"
"It was the Venerable Ānanda, venerable sir, who instructed, urged, roused, and gladdened the bhikkhus in the attendance hall with a talk on the Dhamma, and spoke the summary and exposition of the one of an excellent night."
Then the Blessed One addressed the Venerable Ānanda: "But in what way, Ānanda, did you instruct, urge, rouse, and gladden the bhikkhus with a talk on the Dhamma, and speak the summary and exposition of the one of an excellent night?"
