[614] "Therein, Ānanda, as for the individual here who refrains from the destruction of living beings (pāṇātipāta), refrains from taking what is not given (adinnādāna) … and holds right view (sammādiṭṭhi), and who, with the breakup of the body, after death, is reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world — either that good deed (kalyāṇakamma) of his, to be experienced as pleasant, was done by him previously, or that good deed of his, to be experienced as pleasant, was done by him later, or at the time of death right view was fully acquired and undertaken by him. On account of that, with the breakup of the body, after death, he is reborn in a good destination, a heavenly world. And as for the fact that here he refrains from the destruction of living beings, refrains from taking what is not given … and holds right view — he experiences the result (vipāka) of that either in this very life, or in the next rebirth, or on some subsequent occasion."
