[615] Therein, Ānanda, as to the individual who here abstains from the destruction of life, abstains from taking what is not given … holds right view (sammādiṭṭhi), and who, on the breaking up of the body, after death, is reborn in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell — either that evil deed of his, to be experienced as suffering (dukkha), was done previously, or that evil deed of his, to be experienced as suffering, was done afterwards, or at the time of death wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi) was fully acquired and undertaken by him. Because of that, on the breaking up of the body, after death, he is reborn in a state of deprivation, a bad destination, a place of ruin, hell. But as for the fact that he here abstained from the destruction of life, abstained from taking what is not given … held right view — he experiences the result (vipāka) of that either in this very life, or in the next rebirth, or in some subsequent period.
