[667] Bhikkhus, herein, that which is the pleasure of sensuality — a filthy pleasure, a worldling's pleasure, an ignoble pleasure — this is a state beset by suffering (dukkha), beset by harm, beset by despair, beset by fever; it is the wrong way of practice. Therefore this state is beset by strife (saraṇa). Herein, bhikkhus, that which is the pleasure of renunciation, the pleasure of seclusion, the pleasure of peace, the pleasure of awakening — this is a state free from suffering, free from harm, free from despair, free from fever; it is the right way of practice. Therefore this state is free of strife (araṇa).
