[694] Then the Venerable Pukkusāti, [realizing,] "It seems the Teacher (satthā) has come to me! It seems the Sublime One (sugata) has come to me! It seems the Fully Awakened One (sammāsambuddha) has come to me!" rose from his seat, arranged his robe over one shoulder, prostrated with his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and said this to the Blessed One: "A transgression (accaya) overcame me, venerable sir—so foolish, so confused, so unskilful was I—in that I presumed that the Blessed One might be addressed with the appellation 'friend' (āvuso). Venerable sir, may the Blessed One accept my transgression as a transgression, for the sake of restraint in the future."
