[695] "Indeed (taggha), bhikkhu, a transgression (accaya) overcame you—foolish, muddled, and unskillful as you were—in that you presumed to address me with the appellation 'friend' (āvuso). But since you, bhikkhu, having seen the transgression as a transgression, make amends in accordance with the Dhamma, we accept it from you. For this is growth in the discipline of the Noble One: that one, having seen a transgression as a transgression, makes amends in accordance with the Dhamma and undertakes restraint in the future."
"Venerable sir, may I receive the higher ordination (upasampadā) in the presence of the Blessed One."
"But bhikkhu, are your bowl and robes complete?"
"Venerable sir, my bowl and robes are not complete."
"Bhikkhu, the Tathāgatas do not confer the higher ordination on one whose bowl and robes are incomplete."
