[696] Then the venerable Pukkusāti, having delighted in and rejoiced at the Blessed One's words, rose from his seat, paid homage to the Blessed One, circumambulated him keeping his right side toward him, and departed in search of a bowl and robes. Then, while the venerable Pukkusāti was wandering in search of a bowl and robes, a cow deprived him of life. Then a number of bhikkhus approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, they sat down to one side. Seated to one side, those bhikkhus said this to the Blessed One: "Venerable sir, the clansman named Pukkusāti, who was instructed by the Blessed One with a brief exhortation, has died. What is his destination? What is his future state?"
