[700] Then, not long after the Blessed One had departed, the venerable Sāriputta addressed the bhikkhus: "Friends, bhikkhus." "Friend," those bhikkhus replied to the venerable Sāriputta. The venerable Sāriputta said this: "Friends, at Isipatana, in the Deer Park near Bārāṇasī, the Tathāgata, the Arahant, the Fully Enlightened One has set rolling the unsurpassed Wheel of Dhamma, which cannot be turned back by any ascetic or brahmin or deva or Māra or Brahmā or by anyone in the world — that is, the announcing, teaching, making known, establishing, disclosing, analyzing, and elucidating of the four noble truths (ariyasacca). Of which four? The announcing, teaching, making known, establishing, disclosing, analyzing, and elucidating of the noble truth of suffering (dukkha); the announcing, teaching, making known, establishing, disclosing, analyzing, and elucidating of the noble truth of the origin (samudaya) of suffering; the announcing, teaching, making known, establishing, disclosing, analyzing, and elucidating of the noble truth of the cessation (nirodha) of suffering; the announcing, teaching, making known, establishing, disclosing, analyzing, and elucidating of the noble truth of the way of practice leading to the cessation of suffering."
