[792] "Sisters, there are these seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga) through the development and frequent cultivation of which a bhikkhu, with the destruction of the taints (āsava), realizes for himself with direct knowledge (abhiññā), in this very life, the taintless liberation of mind (cetovimutti) and liberation by wisdom (paññāvimutti), and having entered upon it, abides therein. What seven? Here, sisters, a bhikkhu develops the awakening factor of mindfulness (sati), which relies on seclusion (viveka), relies on dispassion (virāga), relies on cessation, and matures in relinquishment (vossagga); he develops the awakening factor of investigation of dhammas (dhammavicaya) … develops the awakening factor of energy (vīriya) … develops the awakening factor of rapture (pīti) … develops the awakening factor of tranquility (passaddhi) … develops the awakening factor of concentration (samādhi) … develops the awakening factor of equanimity (upekkhā), which relies on seclusion, relies on dispassion, relies on cessation, and matures in relinquishment. These, sisters, are the seven factors of awakening through the development and frequent cultivation of which a bhikkhu, with the destruction of the taints, realizes for himself with direct knowledge, in this very life, the taintless liberation of mind and liberation by wisdom, and having entered upon it, abides therein."
