[81] The Blessed One said this: "Bhikkhus, sensual pleasures (kāmā) are impermanent, hollow, false, deceptive by nature. They are made of illusion, bhikkhus, the prattle of fools. Sensual pleasures in this present life and sensual pleasures in lives to come, perceptions (saññā) of sensual pleasures in this present life and perceptions of sensual pleasures in lives to come — both of these are Māra's realm, Māra's domain, Māra's bait, Māra's pasture. Here these evil, unwholesome mental states — covetousness (abhijjhā), ill will (byāpāda), and aggression (sārambha) — come into play, and these very states arise as an obstacle for a noble disciple training here."
