[816] "'The six classes of feeling (vedanā) should be understood' — thus indeed this was said. In dependence on what was this said? In dependence on the eye and forms there arises eye-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact; with contact as condition, feeling. In dependence on the ear and sounds there arises ear-consciousness … In dependence on the nose and odours there arises nose-consciousness … In dependence on the tongue and tastes there arises tongue-consciousness … In dependence on the body and tangibles there arises body-consciousness … In dependence on the mind and dhammas there arises mind-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact; with contact as condition, feeling. 'The six classes of feeling should be understood' — thus what was said, it was in dependence on this that it was said. This is the fifth set of six."
