[815] "'The six classes of contact (phassa) should be understood' — thus indeed was this said. And in dependence on what was this said? In dependence on the eye and forms there arises eye-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact. In dependence on the ear and sounds there arises ear-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact. In dependence on the nose and odours there arises nose-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact. In dependence on the tongue and tastes there arises tongue-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact. In dependence on the body and tangibles there arises body-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact. In dependence on the mind and dhammas there arises mind-consciousness; the meeting of the three is contact. 'The six classes of contact should be understood' — thus when this was said, it was in dependence on this that it was said. This is the fourth set of six."
