[113] Standing to one side, a certain deity (devatā) spoke this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
"Faith (saddhā) is a person's companion;
if faithlessness does not persist,
fame and renown thereby come to him,²
and he goes to heaven, leaving the body behind."
"One should abandon anger (kodha), cast off conceit (māna),
one should transcend every fetter (saṃyojana);
ties (saṅgā) do not befall one who clings not to name-and-form (nāmarūpa),
who has nothing."
