[156] "Formerly I was a potter in Vebhaḷiṅga — Ghaṭīkāra;
I was a supporter of my mother and father, a lay follower (upāsaka) of Kassapa.
Abstaining from sexual intercourse (methunā dhammā), I lived the holy life (brahmacārī), free from carnal things (nirāmisa);
I was a man of your own village, and in the past I was your friend.
It is I who know these seven bhikkhus, liberated,
in whom lust and hatred are utterly destroyed, who have crossed over attachment (visattikā) to the world."
