[220] [The Blessed One replied:]
"Ascetics (samaṇā) here are free from conflict (araṇā) in the world;
the life that ascetics have lived to fulfilment does not perish;
ascetics fully understand desire (icchā);
freedom (bhojissiya) is the ascetics' for all time.
[Variant readings: 1. Sī. reads "vittamālasyānālasyaṃ." 2. "Icchā" is also a reading.]
Mother, father, and brother venerate the ascetic,
him who stands firmly established;
though of low birth, the ascetic here
is one to whom even khattiyas pay homage."
The Ghatvāvagga, the eighth chapter, is concluded.

Ghatvā, Ratha, and Vitta,
Vuṭṭhi, Bhītā, Najīrati,
Issara, Kāma, Pātheyya,
Pajjota, and, with Araṇa, [the chapter is complete].
