[286] "It is wonderful, venerable sir! It is amazing, venerable sir! How well spoken, venerable sir, is this by the Blessed One:
'Those who give it out of faith (saddhā),
with a clear and confident mind —
that very food attends upon them
both in this world and in the next.
Therefore, having dispelled stinginess (macchera),
the conqueror of the stain should give a gift (dāna);
merits (puñña) are the support of living beings
in the world beyond.'"
