[287] Standing to one side, Ghaṭikāra the young deva (devaputta) spoke this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:
"Seven bhikkhus reborn in Avihā
are liberated;
with lust (rāga) and hatred utterly destroyed,
they have crossed over attachment (visattikā) to the world."
"But who are they that crossed the tie (saṅga),
the realm of Death (maccudheyya), so hard to cross?
Who, having abandoned the human body,
have gone beyond the divine yoke (dibbayoga)?"
"Upaka, Phalagaṇḍa,
and Pukkusāti — these three —
Bhaddiya, Khaṇḍadeva,
Bāhuraggi, and Siṅgiya:
having abandoned the human body,
they have gone beyond the divine yoke."
