[305] Then, while the praise of the Venerable Sāriputta was being spoken, Susima the young deva (devaputta), surrounded by a great assembly of young devas, approached the Blessed One; having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and stood to one side. Standing to one side, Susima the young deva said this to the Blessed One: "So it is, Blessed One! So it is, Fortunate One (sugata)! For to whom indeed, venerable sir — one who is not a fool, not malicious, not deluded, not of deranged mind (avipallatthacitta) — would the Venerable Sāriputta not be pleasing? Wise, venerable sir, is the Venerable Sāriputta … a censurer of evil, venerable sir, is the Venerable Sāriputta. For to whom indeed, venerable sir — one who is not a fool, not malicious, not deluded, not of deranged mind — would the Venerable Sāriputta not be pleasing? For I too, venerable sir, whatever assembly of young devas I have approached, it is just this report that I hear again and again: 'Wise (paṇḍita) is the Venerable Sāriputta; of great wisdom (mahāpañña) is the venerable one; of wide wisdom (puthupañña) is the venerable one; of joyous wisdom (hāsapañña) is the venerable one; of swift wisdom (javanapañña) is the venerable one; of sharp wisdom (tikkhapañña) is the venerable one; of penetrative wisdom (nibbedhikapañña) is the venerable one; of few wishes (appiccha) is the venerable one; content (santuṭṭha) is the venerable one; secluded (pavivitta) is the venerable one; aloof (asaṃsaṭṭha) is the venerable one; of aroused energy (āraddhaviriya) is the venerable one; a speaker of counsel (vattā) is the venerable one; patient with speech (vacanakkhama) is the venerable one; a reprover (codaka) is the venerable one; a censurer of evil (pāpagarahī) is the Venerable Sāriputta.' For to whom indeed, venerable sir — one who is not a fool, not malicious, not deluded, not of deranged mind — would the Venerable Sāriputta not be pleasing?"
