[352] Now on that occasion a great mass of people had been put in bonds by King Pasenadi of Kosala — some with ropes, some with stocks, some with chains.
Then, in the morning, a number of bhikkhus, having dressed and taken their bowls and robes, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Having walked for alms in Sāvatthī, when they had returned from the alms round after their meal, they approached the Blessed One; having approached and paid homage to the Blessed One, they sat down to one side.
Sitting to one side, those bhikkhus said this to the Blessed One: "Here, venerable sir, a great mass of people has been put in bonds by King Pasenadi of Kosala — some with ropes, some with stocks, some with chains."
