[353] Then the Blessed One, having understood the meaning of this, on that occasion recited these verses:
"That bond is not strong, say the wise,
which is made of iron, of wood, or of pabbaja grass;
but impassioned lust for jewels and earrings,
and the longing for sons and wives —
this, say the wise, is the strong bond,
dragging one down, slack, yet hard to loosen.
Having cut even this, they wander forth,
free of longing, having abandoned sensual pleasure."
