[377] Then the Blessed One, having understood that King Pasenadi of Kosala was displeased, on that occasion spoke these verses: "For even a woman — some woman, indeed — is better than a man, O sovereign of the people: one wise and virtuous, who reveres her mother-in-law as a deity, devoted to her husband. The man born of her becomes a hero, O lord of the land; the son of such a good wife rules even the realm." The seventh: the First Appamāda Sutta.
