[397] And how, great king, is a person light and bound for light? Here, great king, a certain person is reborn in a high family — in an affluent khattiya family, an affluent brahmin family, or an affluent householder family — one rich, of great wealth, of great possessions, with abundant gold and silver, with abundant treasures and means, with abundant wealth and grain. And he is handsome, good to look upon, and graceful, endowed with supreme beauty of complexion; he is one who gains food, drink, clothing, and vehicles; garlands, scents, and unguents; bedding, lodging, and lamps. He conducts himself well by body; he conducts himself well by speech; he conducts himself well by mind. Having conducted himself well by body, having conducted himself well by speech, having conducted himself well by mind, with the breaking up of the body, after death, he is reborn in a good destination, in a heavenly world. Just as, great king, a man might cross over from palanquin to palanquin, or from horseback to horseback, or from elephant's back to elephant's back, or from mansion to mansion — of just such a kind, great king, I declare this person to be. It is in this way, great king, that a person is light and bound for light. These four persons, great king, are found existing in the world.
