[416] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One, having just become fully awakened (paṭhamābhisambuddha), was dwelling at Uruvelā on the bank of the river Nerañjarā, at the foot of the Ajapāla Banyan Tree (ajapālanigrodha). Then, while the Blessed One had gone into solitude and was in seclusion, this reflection arose in his mind: "Freed, indeed, am I from that practice of austerities (dukkarakārikā)! It is good that I am freed, indeed, from that unbeneficial practice of austerities! It is good, indeed, that I am a being who has attained awakening (bodhi)!"
