[434] Thus have I heard. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Veḷuvana, the Squirrels' Feeding Ground (Kalandakanivāpa).
Then the Blessed One, having walked back and forth in the open air for much of the night, when the night was approaching dawn, washed his feet, entered the dwelling, and lay down on his right side in the lion's posture (sīhaseyyā), placing one foot upon the other, mindful and clearly comprehending (sato sampajāno), having attended to the perception of rising.
