[50] "Friend, I am new, not long gone forth, only recently come to this Dhamma and Discipline (dhammavinaya); I am not able to explain it to you in detail. That Blessed One, the Arahant (arahaṃ), the Perfectly Enlightened One (sammāsambuddho), is dwelling at Rājagaha, in the Tapodārāma. Approach that Blessed One and ask him about this matter; as the Blessed One answers you, so should you remember it."
"It is not easy, bhikkhu, for us to approach that Blessed One, surrounded as he is by other deities (devatā) of great influence (mahesakkhā). If you, bhikkhu, having approached that Blessed One, would ask him about this matter, we too would come to hear the Dhamma."
"Very well, friend," the Venerable Samiddhi assented to that deity; then he approached the Blessed One, and having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One and sat down to one side.
[Siam edition apparatus: (1) "bhīyo" is also a reading; (2) Sī. reads "puccheyyāsi" (for "puccha").]
