[564] Then the Venerable Brahmadeva, having dressed in the morning, took his bowl and robe and entered Sāvatthī for alms. Walking for alms in Sāvatthī on an unbroken round from house to house (sapadānaṃ), he approached his own mother's residence.
Now on that occasion the brahmin lady who was the Venerable Brahmadeva's mother was constantly offering up an oblation (āhuti) to Brahmā.
Then it occurred to Brahmā Sahampati: "This brahmin lady, the Venerable Brahmadeva's mother, constantly offers up an oblation to Brahmā. Suppose I were to approach her and stir her to a sense of urgency (saṃvega)."
