[655] "Though muttering much prattle,
one is not a brahmin by birth —
being inwardly rotten and defiled,
surrounded by deceit.
But one who has known his past abodes (pubbenivāsa),
who sees heaven (sagga) and the plane of misery (apāya),
and who has reached the destruction of birth (jāti) —
a sage (muni) consummate in direct knowledge (abhiññā):
by these three true knowledges (vijjā)
one is a brahmin possessed of the triple knowledge (tevijja);
accomplished in true knowledge and conduct,
he may eat this milk-rice (pāyasa)."
"Let the venerable Gotama eat! The venerable one is a brahmin."
