[743] Then the Venerable Vaṅgīsa extolled the Venerable Sāriputta to his face with fitting verses:
"Deep in wisdom (gambhīrapañña), intelligent,
skilled in what is the path and what is not the path (maggāmagga),
Sāriputta, of great wisdom,
teaches the Dhamma to the bhikkhus.
He teaches in brief,
and he also speaks in detail;
his voice, like the myna bird's,
pours forth inspired discourse (paṭibhāṇa).¹
As he teaches it,
they listen to his sweet utterance;
with minds uplifted (udaggacittā), gladdened (muditā)
by his voice — captivating, pleasant to hear, and lovely —
the bhikkhus incline their ears."
