[782] "Many indeed are the adverse sounds that one of austerity (tapassī) must endure; one should not be dismayed on that account, for not by that is one defiled. But he who takes fright at sounds, like a wind-startled deer in the forest, him they call 'flighty-minded' (lahucitta): his observance (vata) does not come to fulfillment."
