[829] A third time the light disappeared for the householder (gahapati) Anāthapiṇḍika and darkness appeared; fear, trepidation, and horripilation arose in him. And thereupon he wished once more to turn back. A third time the yakkha Sivaka, remaining invisible, made his voice heard:
"A hundred elephants, a hundred horses, … are not worth the sixteenth part.
Go forward, householder! Go forward, householder!
Going forward is better for you, not turning back."
Then the darkness disappeared for the householder Anāthapiṇḍika and light appeared; and whatever fear, trepidation, and horripilation had arisen in him, that subsided.
